MEET MARYAM

The Creative Force Behind User-Centered Design

Maryam is a Product Designer with a flair for visual design, bringing creativity and empathy to every project. With a rich background in design, she collaborates with enterprises, mid-size companies, startups, and educational institutions to craft user-centered, delightful products that shine across platforms—whether on phones, tablets, or desktops. Her work has driven tangible results, from boosting user engagement and efficiency to reducing costs, making her an invaluable partner in digital transformation.

At Compendiem Design Agency and as the driving force behind Maryam LLC, she’s led the charge in the end-to-end UX design process. From the initial spark of an idea to the final product launch, she’s hands-on in every phase—conducting user research, crafting user flows, wireframes, and prototypes, building robust design systems, and ensuring usability through rigorous testing. Whether she’s designing a task management app that keeps teams on track or a data-driven SaaS dashboard that empowers decision-making, Maryam’s focus is always on creating experiences that resonate with users and make their lives easier.

A Purposeful Transition from Graphic to UX Design

Before she became a UX design powerhouse, Maryam spent a decade perfecting her craft as a graphic designer, winning several national and international awards along the way. This journey took her from the fast-paced design studios of the U.S. to the global stage, where her work stood out for its creativity and precision. Her transition to UX design was a natural evolution, where she seamlessly integrated her graphic design skills—design thinking, empathy, problem-solving, a sharp eye for aesthetics, and attention to detail—into the world of user experience. Her graphic design background gives her a unique edge, allowing her to approach UX challenges with a deep understanding of visual storytelling.

An Educator and a Mentor

Maryam is also shaping the next generation of designers as an Associate Professor of UI/UX and Visual Design at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Here, she’s guided over 500 students through the intricate worlds of UX/UI and graphic design, empowering them to apply design thinking to real-world challenges. Her dedication to teaching has earned her the highest praise from students and recognition with the prestigious Faculty Prize for Research and Creative Activity in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Her ability to bridge the gap between theory and practice has made her a beloved mentor and a respected educator.

A Lifelong Learner and Design Advocate

Maryam believes in staying ahead of the curve, which led her to complete a comprehensive UX design certification from Springboard. Over 700 hours of immersive coursework in UI/UX methodologies and technologies deepened her expertise, and she applied her learnings to real-world projects, cementing her place as a leader in the field. Her two master's degrees in Graphic Design, both nationally and internationally recognized, further attest to her deep knowledge and commitment to design excellence.

When She’s Not Designing…

Maryam is an avid traveler and art enthusiast, continually exploring diverse landscapes, cultures, and artistic expressions. Since moving to the United States in 2016, each journey has taught her resilience, flexibility, and the beauty of different perspectives. Whether trying new dishes, meeting new people, or immersing herself in new environments, Maryam's love for exploration fuels her creativity and enriches her design approach.

She enjoys discovering various art forms, from paintings to sculptures, through local and national galleries, museums, and exhibitions. These experiences inspire her creativity, vision, and cultural awareness.

Maryam also loves listening to podcasts, particularly those with social themes, history, and the occasional adventure. For her, podcasts are a gateway to understanding societies and people, sparking her imagination and deepening her global perspective.
